Abstract
DR. R. J. TILL YARD gives a drawing of the veins of the wings of a recently found fossil cockroach of Lower Permian age and compares it with that of the present day giant Australian termite Mastotermes, which represents the most archaic type of that order. The close correspondence in the vein arrangements indicates that termites and cockroaches have a common ancestor, and that while the wings of the cockroaches have developed, those of termites have been in part eliminated.
