On 30 July 2006 our College and the field of pharmacology lost one of its most prominent, beloved and active member. Eva was one of the pioneers of ACNP, she became a member back in 1961, when the College was being organized. She was an active and loyal member of the College all her life, attending almost every Annual Meeting.

In 1983, Eva was a member of Council and in 1988 became the first female President of ACNP. Not only did Eva hold that office in ACNP, but was also the President of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. If that was not enough, she was Editor of Pharmacological Reviews and the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.

Eva graduated from Sara Lawrence and then did her training at UCLA Brain Research Institute. She then joined the Pharmacology Department at Stanford where she advanced to the position of Professor. Eva then moved to the University of California at Davis when her husband Keith became Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology. Her interests were varied but centered on the effects and actions of drugs on brainstem reticular formation. Eva and Keith spent time in Africa where they studied a troop of baboons that suffered from a type of epilepsy. In the course of her career she published over 150 papers in reviewed journals.

Eva and Keith were instrumental in organizing the Western Pharmacology Society, which afforded graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and senior investigators a forum to present their studies.

Eva was always concerned with fostering the development of young scientists. She was a wonderful teacher, mentor, and role model for young students.

Neuropharmacology and Pharmacology suffered a great loss. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her three children, Ann, Paul, and Melissa.
