Abstract
THERE is no doubt as to the welcome which this volume will receive at the hands of those who have occasion to study and identify specimens of Polychasta from the area in question or from neighbouring coasts. The author has liberally interpreted the limits of the French area, for he has included all the species of Polychseta recorded from the southern part of the North Sea (including the coasts of England, Holland, and Belgium), the Channel, the Atlantic from the coast of Ireland to Gibraltar, and the whole of the Mediterranean, so that material has been drawn from an area well beyond the strict limits of France.
