Abstract
DR. FILCHNER'S account of the German Antarctic Expedition of 1910-12 has been long delayed, but its appearance is welcome, for it adds an important chapter to the story of the exploration of the Weddell Sea. The Deutschland essayed to follow up the work of the Scotia, and like the Scotia was well equipped for oceanographical work. Dr. Filchner hoped also to set up a winter station in the far south as a base for the exploration of the ice-cap.
