Abstract

THE director of the Meteorological Office reports that information has been received from the Seismological Observatory at Eskdalemuir, Scotland, of the record of a large earthquake which occurred at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7. The computed position of the epicentre is lat. 9° N., long. 86° W., with a possible error of 10°. The position mentioned is in the Pacific Ocean, about 70 miles from Cape Blanco in Costa Rica, and a circle of 10° radius drawn from this point as centre includes a portion of Central America and the Isthmus of Panama.
