Abstract
II. HAV1NG gained an idea of the results desired in the manufacture of illuminating gas and furnace coke, we can pass on to the thermal conditions existing during, carbonisation, and at the outset we are met by the difficulty that little is known as to the heat of formation of coal, and that a variety of opinions exists on this point.
