IN connection with Prof. Osborne Reynolds's “Notes on the Slipperiness of Ice,” read before the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society (NATURE, March 9, p. 455), the following extract from a brief paper, read by me before the Royal Dublin Society in 1886 (Proc.
