Cajal bodies are membraneless organelles scaffolded by coilin protein. Here, coilin–coilin and coilin–Nopp140 interaction sites are identified and perturbed, revealing coilin’s capacity to form long fibrils and be remodeled into spherical structures.

The Nup82–Nup159–Nsp1 complex, which plays a key role in mRNA export, is recruited late during the process of nuclear pore complex (NPC) assembly. Here the authors combine crosslinking mass spectrometry, biochemical reconstitution and molecular modeling to gain insights into the mechanism of Nup82 recruitment to the NPC.

Heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1), including HP1 α, β and γ, is a family of non-histone chromatin factors thought to be involved in chromatin organization. Here, the authors show that dimeric HP1β interacts dynamically with H3K9me3, a hallmark of heterochromatin, and bridges condensed chromatin.

HMBG1 is a protein expressed in natural killer cells and is important in immunosurveillance. In this study, the authors show that HMGB1 binds to and inhibits PKM2, resulting in a block in aerobic glycolysis and ultimately cell death.
