To date, intravesical BCG immunotherapy is the most effective therapy for superficial bladder cancer, with a positive effect on tumor recurrence and disease progression.1 Intravesical chemotherapy, on the other hand, has consistently been shown to reduce short-term recurrence rates, but has no impact on disease progression. In an attempt to exploit the differing mechanisms of action, combination therapy with intravesical BCG and chemotherapy has been attempted,2, 3 but with disappointing results—until now.
