What makes rats ticklish?

Researchers have been tickling rats to find the brain areas involved in ticklishness. They recorded the rats’ ultrasonic squeaks and measured their brain activity while the rats were being tickled by a researcher’s hand. Understanding the neural basis of ticklishness could explain the oddities of human ticklishness too.
