Nitrogenase

Abstract

The protein components of the enzyme system nitrogenase, responsible for the fixation of nitrogen by microbes, have been purified and characterised from several sources. Examination by physicochemical and kinetic methods is revealing an elaborate reaction mechanism involving electron transport from one protein to the other promoted by reaction with Mg—ATP.
