The Head of the University of Portmouth's Dental Academy, Sara Holmes MBE, has been selected for a National Teaching Fellowship, the most prestigious award in higher education, for excellence in her field. Fellowship award-winners receive £10,000 which may be used for their professional development in teaching and learning or aspects of pedagogy. Sara is one of just 55 lecturers and learning support staff to receive a National Teaching Fellowship and was selected from over 180 nominations submitted by higher education institutions across England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

The Investors in People Award (IIP) has been presented to the Tooth Fairies Dental Agency in Rumney, Wales, making Tooth Fairies the only dental agency in Wales to hold IIP recognition. The award recognises businesses that invest in the training and development of their staff and provides a quality assurance mark to customers.

Dental 22, an NHS dental practice in Retford, has been named one of the East Midlands' best employers in the regional final of the National Apprenticeship Awards and National Training Awards 2012. Dental 22 was recognised in the ‘Small Employer of the Year’ business category and was awarded ‘highly commended’.
