Whether you want to be up-to-date with recently introduced tooth whitening regulations, learn about the importance of early detection for oral cancer or hear about preventing periodontitis, London's ExCel is the place to be from 25-27 April 2013. Over the course of three days the British Dental Conference and Exhibition 2013 will offer a host of lectures, seminars and training events, all attracting CPD accreditation.

Throughout the event there will be plenty to interest the whole team. On Saturday Specialist Periodontist and Professor at the UCL Eastman Unit of Periodontology Ian Needleman will discuss periodontics from a preventative point of view. Also on Saturday Dr Zaki Kanaan from Bow Lane Dental Group will present a session on modern whitening techniques.

BSDHT President Julie Rosse's session Preparing for change - dental hygiene and therapy in the 21st century will be a highlight for dental hygienists and therapists. Practice managers will not want to miss the session on performance management led by Jill Taylor and Hannah Peek, President and Vice-President of the Association of Dental Administrators and Managers (ADAM). All DCPs wishing to update their skill set should go along to the Thursday extended skills workshop for DCPs hosted by the FGDP (UK).

Those wishing to improve their knowledge and add to their core CPD should be sure to attend some of the sessions in one of this year's popular features, the Training essentials theatre. Presentations to look out for in 2013 include an update on decontamination and HTM 01-05, an insight into selection criteria and quality assurance in dental radiography, and a session on managing medical emergencies in the dental practice. The Training essentials theatre will also host a seminar by oral cancer expert Professor Saman Warnakulasuriya OBE.

Other features to look forward to include the return of the Demonstration theatre with practical sessions for the whole team using phantom head simulators and, new for 2013, the BDA museum cinema. This unique combination of cinema and museum will screen early dentistry footage throughout the event as well as providing the chance to examine some dental artefacts first hand.

The traditional Friday night party will be held in The Fox, a converted Docklands tobacco warehouse next to ExCel.
