Welcome back to BDJ Team after our summer break! Although I spent some time enjoying the ocean with my family on far-flung shores, dentistry was never far from my mind (as my children well know with my regular oral health-related nagging).

In other magazine circles - slightly contrasting with this one - the September issue is one of the most important of the year. The importance of the September issue of Vogue is that it 'helps decipher key insights into consumer habits, influences, and relevant topics' [Google]. There was even a film made about it back in 2009, focusing on the behind-the-scenes drama following Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and her team during the production of the fall issue.

While no one has yet made a film following the behind-the-scenes drama of our own Editor-in-Chief Stephen Hancocks as he juggles the sign-off of six BDJ Portfolio titles on a regular basis (although they totally should) ... September does of course have that back to work/back to school vibe, with a renewed focus on the business at hand, a crisp freshness in the air and a promise of the magic of autumn ahead. I personally am raring to go as we influence, inform, and entertain the DCP readers of the UK with relevant content in our three final issues of the year - two of which are themed issues on dental nursing and on continuing education.

So here is the September line-up: the fourth part of our neurodiversity and dentistry series, about reducing inequalities through neuro-inclusive communication; Rebecca Silver's exploration of misandry, misogyny, sexism and bias in dentistry; a look at the impact of DNACPR on the dental team; the first in a two-part series on sustainability; and our cover story, looking at dental nursing inside prison walls. It's not glamourous, but we still are!
