Reply to: Seizures in children undergoing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

We appreciate Dr. Xiaoya Li and Dr. Weiwei Chen’s letter1 to the editor regarding our paper “Seizures in children undergoing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation”.2 We appreciate the questions they raise.

First, rigorous evidence identification is essential for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The involvement of more databases would undoubtedly improve the quality of our study. However, it remains unclear which search systems are most appropriate for evidence synthesis. Some scholar suggested that Google Scholar might be inappropriate as principal search system for systematic reviews due to severe performance limitations with regard to formulating queries, the correct interpretation of queries by the system, data retrieval capabilities, and the reproducibility of searches.3,4 Scopus has substantial overlap with Web of Science and is limited to recent articles.4
