Abstract 657

This study was to determine whether SGA infants with NEC had poor outcome than those of appropriate for gestational age (AGA). Between July 1992 and Dec. 1997, records of 40 cases with NEC were reviewed. Diagnosis of NEC was made by the clinical features and radiological findings, and cases were selected if they met at least the stage II by the modified Bell's criteria. We stratified the cases into SGA and AGA groups. SGA and AGA were defined as birth weights below 10th and between 10-90th percentile, respectively. Their clinical features and outcome were summarized in the attached table. We concluded that SGA infants with NEC were sicker and had worse outcome than the AGA infants.
