Chair, Department of Pediatrics- sought by the James H. Quillen College of Medicine of East Tennessee State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for administration of a faculty of 19 with a wide range of clinical and research activities: undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education; and the management of a residency program. Candidate must be board certified and have national credentials leading to appointment as a full professor. The successful candidate should have strong clinical and educational skills; clinical practice administrative skills; a demonstrated capacity to lead departmental faculty and to collaborate with clinical faculty and the community; and a commitment to cultural diversity. A strong research track record, previous academic administrative experience, and a rural/primary care orientation are highly desirable.

NEUROSCIENCE

The Department of Pediatrics of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is recruiting full time neuroscience researchers with a focus on one of the following areas: attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, autistic spectrum disorders, traumatic brain injury or communications disorders. Preference given to applicants with focus on genetics, underlying pathophysiology or treatment. Candidates should have Ph.D., and/or M.D. degree and be qualified for appointment as Associate Professor or Professor in the Standing Faculty with tenure at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Applicants should demonstrate a strong funding and publishing history as well as a solid record of building a research team and nurturing younger scientists. Charles E. Culpeper Foundation Scholarships in Medical Science

The Charles E. Culpeper Foundation is currently accepting applications for its Year 2000 Scholarships in Medical Science Program designed to support the career development of academic physicians.

Up to four awards of $100,000 per year for three years will be made to United States medical schools or equivalent United States educational institutions on behalf of candidates who are U.S. citizens or aliens who have been granted permanent U.S. residence (proof required); who have received their M.D. degree from a U.S. medical school or the equivalent of an M.D. degree from an educational institution equivalent to a United States Medical School in 1991 or later (except under extraordinary circumstances, as approved by the Foundation); and who are judged worthy of support by virtue of the quality of their research proposals. All scientific research relevant to human health is eligible for consideration. No institution may nominate more than one candidate.

In selecting awardees, emphasis will be on identifying young physicians with clear potential for making substantial contributions to science as academic physicians. Since January 1988, 37 physicians have been selected as Charles E. Culpeper foundation Medical Scholars.
