CONFERENCE PREVENTION OF HIV TRANSMISSION FROM MOTHERS TO INFANTS

A conference on Global Strategies for the Prevention of HIV Transmission From Mothers to Infants will be held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City, Washington, DC, September 3-6, 1997. The conference will address critical intervention issues by combining multidisciplinary scientific updates what topic-specific workshop presentations. This international conference is sponsored by the American Society for Microbiology in collaboration with the Office of AIDS Research, National Institutes of Health (NIH), and is cosponsored by the American Foundation for AIDS Research; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the Fogarty International Center, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, NIH; and the International Aids Society. Specific goals of the conference are to provide updates on current research and concepts concerning prevention of mother-to-infant HIV transmission, and to allow opportunities for researchers and public health workers from developing countries to identify implementation obstacles, practical applications of current research and clinical results, and ways to further extend knowledge to reduce mother-to-infant HIV transmission.
