Objective: To evaluate the respiratory morbidity (RM) to school age of a cohort of infants with BW ≤1250 g who were routinely cultured at birth for Uu. Method: A revised form of the American Thoracic Society standardized questionnaire for RM in children was completed by mail at 8 years of age. RM was defined as cough and phlegm, or cough and congestion ≥3 months each year, asthma diagnosed by physician, and/or ≥2 respiratory illnesses restricting normal activities ≥3 days each year. Results: 79 of 105 infants born in this period were eligible(congenital anomalies excluded) and survived to 8 years. 10 patients were lost to follow up and 19 questionnaires are pending. In multivariate analysis, lower BW, lack of antenatal steroid use, and positive Uu status were associated with O2 at 36 wks corrected age (CA). TableConclusion: Although Uu status was associated with O2 at 36 wks CA, no difference in RM was observed at 8 years. funded by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals
