Introduction: A multidisciplinary approach to genitourinary malignancy: does this topic warrant further debate?

In this supplement to Nature Clinical Practice Urology, we review strategies for the management of bone complications in prostate cancer and emphasize the role of multidisciplinary management in optimizing outcomes.1 A multidisciplinary team approach, including urologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists, is practical and effective in many academic centers. The degree to which this approach is used in the broader community of physicians caring for patients with prostate cancer is, however, less clear.

Evidently, much work remains to be done in order to establish optimally effective multidisciplinary care plans
