The health assessment questionnaire in routine clinical practice

Patient-derived functional measures are important tools in the assessment of general health, function, and disability, in patients with rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The clinical and prognostic value of the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ), a tool for assessing functional capacity and limitations in patients with rheumatic diseases, has been clearly proven and highlighted in a large number of publications.

The question that arises, however, is whether or not patient-derived assessments are the single most important measure to evaluate RA, or rather, should these patient-derived assessments be considered and employed in the context of a broader perspective?
