Prophylactic Oral Phenobarbital

I read the recent article by Murki et al.1 describing a randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled trial of prophylactic oral phenobarbital to reduce the need for phototherapy in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD)-deficient neonates with much interest. The authors concluded that prophylactic oral phenobarbital does not decrease the need for phototherapy or exchange transfusions in these neonates. However, I am of the opinion that there are several methodological flaws in the study, several of which are enumerated below, which require further explanation by the authors.
