Peripheral Artery Catheter Injury

Dear Editor:

The case report by Vasquez et al.1 describing the treatment of peripheral artery catheter-induced ischemic injury with topical nitroglycerin ointment in a newborn infant was interesting. Although the insertion of peripheral arterial catheters may be necessary at times, consideration should be given to the routine placement of double-lumen umbilical catheters so that peripheral arterial access can be avoided.
