When websites are being redesigned and retooled, they are frequently flagged with signs saying 'under construction'. Such construction usually means temporary inconvenience, with the implicit promise that, once all the potholes are patched, use will become faster and easier.

For the past several months, naturejobs.com (http://www.nature.com/naturejobs) has undergone such roadwork. During that time, efforts to improve the site's features, such as job searching and résumé posting, have meant that users have had to endure detours.

Today, the barricades have been lifted, allowing users new routes to expanded services. These services include more refined job searches, easier ways to post electronic résumés, and e-mail alerts about suitable jobs.

Construction has extended to the way Naturejobs organizes its editorial content. The main page still contains the most recent articles that examine how science and policy are changing employment dynamics in different disciplines around the world.

But to make the collection of articles more relevant to different interests, we've separated them into life sciences and physics. In doing so, we've supplemented them with other resources from within Nature. The life-sciences 'channel' now also includes material from Nature Biotechnology, and the physics 'channel' is closely linked with Nature's physics portal. In addition, both of those sites contain links to outside resources that we think will be useful.

We hope you agree that the better roads to our improved services have been worth the wait.
