Abstract
THE transition between spinel- and garnet-peridotites, caused by the reaction olivine + garnet ⇌ orthopyroxene + spinel, has been investigated by petrographic study of xenoliths1,2 and by reconnaisance experiments on phase equilibria. We report here an unusual spinel-garnet harzburgite xenolith from the Liqhobong kimberlite (north-west pipe), Lesotho, that shows evidence of a complex history.
