Abstract
INTERESTING spiral patterns (Fig. 1) were found on the growing inner surface of nacre when the fresh inner surface of pelecypod shells was observed under a microscope using a vertical illuminator. The pattern was explained by invoking the theory of Liesegang's rings1,2. This communication deals with the phenomenon as an aspect of spiral growth.
