Abstract
ALLOXAN and dialuric acid form free radicals in alkaline solution1,2. Ninhydrin, a chemical analogue of alloxan, has been shown to form a free radical on reaction with glycine3. The electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrum of this radical consists of 9 lines and is attributed to the two pairs of equivalent benzenoid protons of ninhydrin.
