Abstract
IN the study of photoperiodic effects in plants considerable attention has been paid to rhythmic phenomena such as leaf movement, guttation and enzyme activity1–4. Stomatal movements are also known to be subject to a diurnal rhythm5. In view of the importance of stomatal regulation of gaseous exchange in the leaf, an investigation has been made of the effects of day-length treatments on stomatal movement. In these experiments Lloyds's stripping method was employed as well as the Gregory and Pearse6 resistance porometer technique, using a cup which was detached between readings.
