Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) refers to a heterogenous group of cancers that originate in the proximal convoluted tubule of the kidney. The three most common forms of RCC are clear cell RCC, papillary RCC and chromophobe RCC.

SMARCB1 regulates a TFCP2L1-MYC transcriptional switch promoting renal medullary carcinoma transformation and ferroptosis resistance

The molecular mechanisms involved in the development of SMARCB1-deficient renal medullary carcinomas (RMCs) remain to be characterised. Here, the authors integrated RMC omics data to show that ferroptosis resistance contributes to transformation of renal thick ascending limb cells into several RMC cell states.
