Potential and limitations of quantum extreme learning machines

Quantum machine learning studies the application of concepts and techniques originating in machine learning to quantum devices. In this paper, the authors develop a framework to model quantum extreme learning machines, showing that they can be concisely described via single effective measurements, and provide an explicit characterization of the information that can be exactly retrieved using such protocols.

Long-range QKD without trusted nodes is not possible with current technology

A recently published patent (https://www.ipo.gov.uk/p-ipsum/Case/PublicationNumber/GB2590064) has claimed the development of a novel quantum key distribution protocol purporting to achieve long-range quantum security without trusted nodes and without use of quantum repeaters. Here we present a straightforward analysis of this claim, and reach the conclusion that it is largely unfounded.
