Normal (or stable) chest radiograph
Nonsmoker
No exposure to irritants
Not taking an ACE inhibitor
Does not have asthma (negative methacholine test), or has asthma but is receiving appropriate treatment
Does not have postnasal drip or sinusitis (negative sinus CT), or receiving therapy with first-generation H1-antagonist
Does not have nonasthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis (no eosinophils in sputum cytology) or receiving inhaled or oral corticosteroids
