Aims & Scope

Open-access journal publishing high quality, editorially selected and peer reviewed advances in materials science

Communications Materials is a selective open access journal from Nature Portfolio publishing high-quality research, reviews and commentary in all areas of materials science. Research papers published by the journal represent significant advances for a specialized area of research. The journal is equally interested in publishing fundamental and applied research. We also aim to provide a community forum for issues of importance to all materials scientists, regardless of sub-discipline.

The scope of the journal covers all areas of materials science, including those at the interface with biology, chemistry, physics and engineering. Primary research of interest to the journal might relate to the following: fundamental insight; applications; techniques and methodologies; synthesis and processing; lifecycle and sustainability.

The submission and review processes are managed by our in-house professional editors supported by our Editorial Board Members, who provide technical expertise across the breadth of materials science. We are committed to rapid dissemination of important research results. Articles are published on a continuous basis with minimal time from acceptance to publication.
