Piezoelectric materials

Among smart materials, piezoelectric materials have attracted research attention for their use in industrial applications to produce devices such as sensors and actuators. Due to their ability to convert mechanical/vibrational energy into electrical energy (and vice versa) they are expected to be essential in renewable energy applications: such materials, when subjected to mechanical vibrations or applied stress, generate a net electrical charge as consequence of the lattice displacement (and the dipole moment of the unit cell) building an electric potential across the material itself. Other characteristics that made piezoelectric materials appealing in a variety of applications include their low cost, lightweight nature, as well as being easy to be controlled and modelled in different forms (e.g. film films, cylinders, fibres, etc.).

This Collection aims to gather the latest advances in the topic of piezoelectric material, focusing on their fabrication, characterisation, and their use in timely applications.

Submitting a paper for consideration

To submit your manuscript for consideration at Scientific Reports as part of this Collection, please follow the steps detailed on this page. On the first page of our online submission system, under “I’m submitting:” select the option “any other article type”. Once logged in you can submit your manuscript to a Collection by selecting “Guest Edited Collection”, under the “Choose the appropriate manuscript type” message, and clicking “Continue”. Then when filling out the manuscript information, select the "Piezoelectric materials" Collection from the alphabetical list on the “Springer Nature Subject Category” tab. Authors should express their interest in the Collection in their cover letter.

Accepted papers are published on a rolling basis as soon as they are ready.

In addition to papers on Piezoelectric materials, Scientific Reports welcomes all original research in the field of Materials science. To browse our latest articles in Materials science click here.
