Editor's choice: epidemiological modelling

Epidemiological models are simplified, mathematical/computational representations of disease outbreaks which aim to simulate the natural course of disease evolution in a population. They provide important insights into transmission dynamics of diseases and costs-benefits of different targeted interventions, and can therefore play a critical role in informing the design and implementation of public health policies as illustrated in the COVID-19 pandemic. All epidemiological models are however limited by the inherent uncertainties and variabilities of the assumptions and parameters upon which they are built, and due caution must be exercised in interpreting and applying their findings.

This collection highlights some of our recent infectious disease research based on epidemiological modelling.
