Money is always a relatively sensitive topic. The GDC's decision to keep the ARF astronomically high for dentists has been well documented in these pages. Here's an item from the BDJ on 21 September, 1965 that sets out what the councils of the Medical Defence Union, Medical Protection Society and Medical and Dental Defence Union describes as 'steeply rising costs'. The narrative remains the same as today – more litigation, more legal fees and a need to maintain financial resources at a level 'commensurate with future liabilities'.
