1936-2013

Angela Brown and family would like to announce the sad passing of Chris Brown, at the age of 77. Chris had been suffering with cancer over the last two years, and, following a chest infection, he declined rapidly and died peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, 2 March 2013.

Chris led a very full and active life. In his school years he joined the scouts and was to become a Queens Scout. He followed his love of traditional jazz, playing the trombone in the 'Red River Jazzmen' in the 50s and 60s, even playing in the Cavern on the same bill as an up and coming rock band, the Beatles.

On qualifying from Manchester in 1960, and marrying Angela, he retired his trombone to concentrate on his family and career.

Following a short time living and working in Disley, Cheshire, he set up in his Glossop practice in Derbyshire, where he remained for over 25 years. Around the same time he moved to his home in Little Hayfield, which became the family home to his children Fiona, Stephen and Martin. He was happy to see them all settled with children of their own.

Retiring in the early 1990s he was still in his prime and able to enjoy a full and healthy retirement of travelling, jazz, art, the countryside, good food, wine and company.

He also set about reducing his golf handicap to single figures, picking up a fair few prizes along the way. He enjoyed golf with his friends and colleagues, being a very active member and past president of the Mellor and Townscliffe Golf Club. He also used to play in the BDA East Lancs Golf Society and was a regular attendee at his university graduate year's reunion dinners and weekends.

Although Chris was denied a few more years of active life, when he knew his fate he declared he was more than happy with his lot in life and died content, with his wife and family at his side.
