Dr Heather Lloyd, Specialist in Special Care Dentistry, is the Lead Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a forthcoming e-learning programme called 'The Vulnerable Patient'.

Dr Lloyd is working with the NHS Postgraduate Deanery for Kent, Surrey and Sussex, Smile-On and the British Dental Health Foundation on the project, which aims to engage and involve all dentists and dental care professionals (DCPs) in the care of vulnerable patients.

'I will be working with other SMEs who are renowned for their expertise in this dental speciality,' said Dr Lloyd. 'The main accent of the programme will be on the vulnerable adult, but we will also be covering some aspects of dental care for vulnerable children.'

There will be a conference on The Vulnerable Patient at the Hilton Hotel, Gatwick on 10 November, and the e-learning programme will be launched at the Royal College of Surgeons in London with the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK) next May. The programme will also be available at the BDA's conference in Manchester in April.
