Kent Community Health NHS Trust's Community Dental Service has won a prestigious funding award in Newham, London.

Kent Community Health worked with authorities in Tower Hamlets and Hackney to put a bid together and has been successful in obtaining funding for projects to support better oral health in East London. The projects will help people in disadvantaged communities, particularly young children and families in areas of poor oral health. Funding has been allocated to projects to help the elderly and vulnerable people.

The British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF) established the Oral Health Education Project earlier this year to support the work of local oral health promotion teams across the UK. The project was made possible by a charitable donation of £100,000 from the Wrigley Tooth Fairy Fund. This project targets parents of children under the age of one to help reduce dental decay and increase the use of dental services.

'We are confident that [Kent Community Dental Service] will make a significant contribution to the lives of nearly 20,000 people who will benefit from the Fund,' said Lorna Grazette, BDHF Trustee and Chair of Judges.
