Son of the late Dr and Mrs H. R. Kalra (née Saxton) of Birmingham, England, David Kalra died tragically on 22 September 2007. David was plucked from life in a violent car crash near Merritt, British Columbia, Canada.

David practised dentistry for almost 50 years, first in Bristol and then in the small remote communities of British Columbia in Canada. He travelled long distances to start up and develop dental services in Ashcroft, Clinton, Lytton, Boston Bar, Hope, and also in Robson Street, Vancouver. He was proud to serve these communities, especially First Nations people.

David leaves wife Rosy, sister Meryle and families Saxton and Kalra who will deeply mourn him. Cremation took place on 29 September 2007 in Vernon, British Columbia and his last journey was attended by Meryle and lifetime friend Jean.

Friends and colleagues of David Kalra are welcome to contact his sister Meryle Kalra with any shared memories they might like to contribute to David's biography. This will tell the story of his devoted contribution to the development of dental health in the small, remote communities of British Columbia. Write to Meryle at 27 West Drive, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B5 7RR.
