BCMA-directed chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells can provide durable remissions in patients with relapsed and/or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). However, the need for autologous T cells creates a major logistical challenge that precludes universal access. Now, data from the phase I UNIVERSAL trial provide preliminary evidence of the feasibility, safety and efficacy of ALLO-715, an allogeneic BCMA-directed CAR T cell product involving T cells from non-HLA-matched donors.
