Despite having established efficacy in various haematological malignancies, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells are associated with mixed results in studies involving patients with solid tumours. Now, interim data from a phase I trial show that CLDN18.2-targeted CAR T cells are safe and effective in patients with heavily pretreated gastrointestinal (GI) cancers.
