To the Editor — On 12 February this year, BP proclaimed its ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Commitments to decarbonization by large corporations are vital in the fight against climate change, especially considering that 100 large organizations are responsible for 71% of industrial carbon emissions1. Corporate rhetoric, however, must be matched with specific targets and concrete actions. Independent research has a role to play in the process.
