The paper titled, ‘Longitudinal associations of dietary patterns with socio-demographic and lifestyle factors in older adults: the TASOAC study’ by Nguyen and co-authors , is a re-submitted and peer reviewed version of a previously retracted paper . In the interest of transparency and due diligence, we briefly highlight the course of events for our readership. Shortly, after the original version was published, the lead author informed the editorial board that the group had discovered errors in their dietary pattern analysis . The correction of those analyses necessitated changes to the abstract, methods, results, discussion, and conclusions. As editors we could not allow such a magnitude of change to be communicated simply as ‘corrections’ to the original paper. This would not be appreciated by the readership and make understanding the paper, rather difficult. Based on our decision, the authors retracted that paper [2, 3] and re-submitted a similarly titled but new version that underwent peer review. The EJCN has now published this new and revised version . Needless to say that, while we commend the authors’ intellectual honesty, a retraction and re-submission of a manuscript stems from serious error which, by itself, is against good science.
