The BDJ Portfolio has published a new online collection bringing together content which highlights, discusses and tackles the recruitment and retention crisis in NHS dentistry.

Recruitment and retention in NHS dentistry is becoming an ever-increasing area of concern in the UK. With pre-existing problems which were only exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the NHS is now facing a mass exodus of dental professionals who are either switching to private dentistry or leaving the profession entirely through early retirement or a change in career.

The collection includes the research article ‘Recruitment and retention in dentistry in the UK: a scoping review to explore the challenges across the UK, with a particular interest in rural and coastal areas', published in January, and an opinion article about the recruitment crisis from the same authors published in April. It also features two of Shaun Sellars' popular ethics columns, ‘Lynn' and ‘R&R'.

The collection is produced with support from BDJ Jobs and links to their pages and careers advice.
