Teeth4life is a free eHealth app with the vision of promoting public prevention in oral health. The public can share the app on social media.

The Teeth4life app was created by dentist Tony Smith after over 35 years in general practice and is an attempt to engage the 48% of adults who do not have a dentist but do have a smartphone, and dentists who do not have the time to explain every aspect of OHI or treatment options in an increasingly litigious environment.

You can download Teeth4life from the App Store or Google Play; press 'Squeeze Me' to see how it works for the public, or enter BS14 8PG in the 'My Dentist' section to see Tony's own profile.

  1. 1.

The 'My Dentist' section is customised for you by registering on the care4teeth.co.uk website. Enter your biography, services and contact details to be available in the user's app via a postcode search

  2. 2.

The 'My Teeth' section is personalised by the user with a scorecard and a traffic light system for their risk of tooth loss, and oral cancer. There is a reminder section to set notifications to improve their oral health habits

  3. 3.

'My Care' has video links on age-appropriate prevention advice

  4. 4.

The 'Treatment' section has videos explaining therapy options for the dentist and dental hygienist, and why some are not available on the NHS.

Follow instructions on the care4teeth.co.uk website on setting up templates on your existing dental software to market your practice/services through the app. By entering a patient's BPE on a follow-up email, for example, this reduces the likelihood of future periodontal litigation as the app can explain and remind the user of their problem and that they have to take responsibility for it, as you have given them the information and it's in their notes.
