A Summer Studentship at Peninsula Dental School: What it means for you

Nadia: I wanted to do a Summer Studentship to gain some insight into the roles of academic dentists, to see the projects our lecturers get involved with when they're not teaching us and see if research was something that I enjoyed. At the beginning of my placement the prospect of entering the research environment, where it seemed like everyone had impressive degrees and PhDs to their name, filled me with a sense of apprehension - as someone with limited experience and skills in this field, I wondered how I would fit in and contribute effectively to ongoing research projects.

Emily: I entered onto this studentship with the ambition to find out if the world of research was for me. As we approach third year and the opportunity to intercalate draws closer, I wanted to understand exactly what research involves and whether this would form part of my future career. I knew that I enjoyed lab work during GCSEs and A-levels, and I was curious to see whether research within oral health would be just as exciting.
