The comment to our article “Gestational body weight gain and risk of low birth weight or macrosomia in women of Japan: a nationwide cohort study [2021IJO00531RR]” can be summarized as the following three points.

  1. 1.

    A “moderate HDP” needs to be defined.

    Moderate HDP was defined as systolic bold pressure ≥140 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg, and not applicable to severe HDP.

  2. 2.

    A definition of “severe HDP” in the present study contradicts with the definition given in Mammaro et al.

    We had wrong description about severe HDP. As pointed out, we have to correct the sentences regarding to the definition of severe HDP in the main text as follows: “We also defined severe HDP as systolic bold pressure ≥160 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure ≥110 mmHg, and/or proteinuria (≥ 2 g/day)”.

  3. 3.

    Some self-reported values are potentially difficult to recall.
