Abstract
As compared to term infanst, preterm infants have low blood pressure especially during the first days of life. Mean arterial blood pressure increases with gestational age and with postnatal age. However, is there a blood pressure threshold for poor outcome and does treating low blood pressure improve outcome of preterm infants? The aim of treating low blood pressure is to improve regional oxygen delivery and thereby to improve long term outcome.
Commonly used reference values, treatment recommendations and studies on the topic are presented and will be discussed.
