Possible Candidate for LMC X-1

Abstract

AN X-ray source, LMC X-1 (2U0540-69), has been reported1 in the Large Magellanic Cloud south of 30 Doradus. Here we draw attention to the proximity of the radio sources MC76 and MC77 to this X-ray source. According to the position for MC77 given by Broten2 this source lies within the Uhuru 90% confidence level error box given by Giacconi et al.3. In Fig. 1 we show the 6 cm radio contours of MC76 and MC77 as given in ref. 2 with the X-ray error box from ref. 3 superimposed on a B plate of the region.
