High Resolution Radio Observations of the Sun at 3.71 and 11.1 cm

Abstract

ON January 14, 1972, observations of the Sun were made at 3.71 and 11.1 cm, using the NRAO three-element interferometer in the 2.7−1.8−0.9 km configuration. At 3.71 and 11.1 cm the minimum fringe spacings are 2.8 and 8.5 arc s, respectively, and the corresponding primary half-power beam widths are 6 and 18 arc min. The existing system was desensitized by turning off the r-f parametric amplifiers. This resulted in a system noise temperature of about 1,200 K. Because these preliminary results represent only six hours of observing time, it was not possible to determine the source positions precisely.
